Burnley 1-0 Liverpool
1914 FA Cup final
The King attended this FA cup final encounter at Crystal Palace between Liverpool and Burnley in what was a final between two Lancashire sides. Burnley finished off the match defeating Liverpool 1-0. The goal came from a throw in near the corner flag. As the ball came over, Freenman, near the penalty spot, smashed the ball towards the goal. It flashed in to the net before the goal keeper could move.

The addicks had endured a painful league campaign as they only managed to finish off in a disappointing 19th place, fortunate to narrowly escape relegation. After suffering a 4-1 defeat against Derby County in the FA Cup final the previous years, the addicks met Burnley in the 1947 final at Wembley and were emphatic on the day. They finished off what proved to be a fine FA Cup campaign by defeating Burnley 1-0 to win the elusive FA Cup trophy.

FA Cup Final 1962
The spotlight on the FA Cup remained on Spurs during the 1962 FA cup final as they won it for the second successive season thanks to goals by Smith, Greaves and Blanchflower. Jimmy Adamson was Burnleys player of the match and he went on to win the footballer of the year award in England. Burnley also finished doff the season in second position, coming out of the season with no silverware.

In what proved to be Nigel Worthington’s last match in charge of Norwich City, Burnley put on their most convincing away performance for many years as they demolished a strong Norwich side. James O’Conner put the clarets in front on the half hour mark before Andy Gray added the second and third goals for Burnley. Norwich scored what proved to be a consolation goal through Robert Earnshaw; however, Alan Mahon sealed the emphatic winning scoring with two minutes remaining to make the score line 4-1 to Burnley.
