Harry Potts guided the Clarets in to the semi finals of the FA cup during the 1960 – 1961 seasons as his side suffered defeat against Tottenham.
The 1961 – 1962 season saw Spurs once again stand in the way for Burnley to capture glory as they defeated the Clarets in the 1962 FA cup final. It was a campaign that saw Burnley nearly win the league title as they finished the campaign off in second position, walking out of the season with no silverware. They came close to wining the title on several occasions during the 1960’s, including 1963 and 1966 as they finished off those campaigns in third position. They enjoyed a fine run in the league cup during the 1968 – 1969 season as they reached the semi finals of the cup competition as they suffered defeat against Swindon Town in the last four of the cup competition.
Burnley boasted many fine players at around this time period, including, Jimmy Adamson and Jimmy Mcllroy.
In four consecutive seasons between 1967 and 1970, the Pilgrims astonishingly finished off the campaigns in 14th position in four years in a row.
